9U COACHING STAFF

Jay Smith

Head Coach

Jay Smith is the head coach of the Carolina Freedom 8U and 12U team. Both teams compete at the D2 level. Jay has been coaching youth baseball since 1998 when he volunteered at Lillington Parks and Recreation. In 2012, his 15U Lillington team went on to win the Dixie State Championship and represented NC in the Dixie World Series. During his coaching career Jay has coached multiple kids that went on to play collegiate baseball. During college Jay served as student manager for baseball teams at Wake Forest and Campbell University. He has also coached basketball and soccer at the parks and recreation level. He is a member of American Baseball Coaches Association.

Bradley Stancil

Assistant Coach

Bradley Stancil is the assistant coach of both the Carolina Freedom 8U and 12U teams.  Bradley brings a wealth of knowledge from his collegiate playing days at UNC-Pembroke and Campbell University. Bradley also coaches basketball in the McGee’s Crossroad Youth Association.

Glenn Johnson

Assistant Coach

Glenn Johnson is an assistant coach with the Carolina Freedom 8U and 12U teams. Glenn resides in Four Oaks and is active in coaching baseball and basketball in the local parks and recreation programs. In 2019, Glenn’s South Johnson All-Star team went on win the 10U Tar Heel Leagues State Championship. He was also an assistant for 2017 South Johnson team that won Tar Heel League State Championship.

12U COACHING STAFF

Ken Morgan

Head Coach

Ken Morgan is the head coach of the Carolina Freedom 11U team. Ken has been coaching youth sports since 2011, to include baseball, basketball, and soccer. Ken played multiple sports growing up, but concentrated mainly on tennis, where he earned a scholarship to play at Mount Olive College, now University of Mount Olive. He attended the 2020 American Baseball Coaches Association, with other coaches within the organization.

Brandon Shipwash

Assistant Coach

Brandon Shipwash is an assistant coach with the Carolina Freedom 12u team. A former high school baseball star at Clayton High School, Brandon went on to pitch at N.C. State University. Brandon has been involved with the Freedom 12u team since its inception. Brandon is also highly involved in his daughter’s competitive barrel racing.
